Phytotomy [plant anatomy]

Plant anatomy or phytotomy is the general term for the study of the internal structure of plants (tissue and cell structure of plant organs). Plant anatomy and morphology are closely tied to plant metabolism, water use efficiency, light absorption, and other physiological processes (Smith et al., 1997). The term anatomy, as applied to plants, generally deals with structures that are observed under a high-powered light microscope or electron microscope.
